Windows 10 Recovery not seeing backup from yesterday

Hey everyone! Been a while since I had a problem, so I figured I'd put this one to y'all. I've recently upgraded my system to a newer, less faulty motherboard. I had previously upgraded to 10 from my OEM Windows 7 Home Premium x64 license. I swapped the part, installed 7 and then upgraded to 10. Over the course of a few days I got all my programs and data where I wanted them to be, and life was good. Start menu and MS Store apps were freaking out, so I figured I'd just make a full system backup with a system image to boot, then reinstall 10 fresh and restore my data from the backup. Everything was great until I went to restore my ~700GB of data. It was created yesterday 12/4 but windows does not recognize where the info is, so therefore it sees a useless backup. I think the issue is that I didn't see where to restore from. I went Settings > Update & Security > Backup > More options and then selected the E drive my backup had been made on, and then it acted like it needed to CREATE a backup instead of recover. I've looked into recovering the system image file I had created just in case this would have happened, and it still doesn't connect the dots. I'm hoping there's just some disconnect between the backup and this current installation of Windows, but I don't get it. The system hardware is exactly was it was when I made the backup, and yet it seems to have completely forgotten what it actually did with the data. To be clear, the E drive still shows more than 700GB being used, but I cannot locate a way to recover the data and I'm more than a bit concerned. Anyone ran into a similar recovery issue and fixed it?

Ah, the good old fashioned PEBKAC. I was unfamiliar with needing to boot to my windows 10 installation media in order to initiate the system image recovery. First time using the feature, so if anything else pops up or if this doesn't work I'll be back. Man, I feel slow. #-o if my hunch is right, this is the way to restore my data and I'll be back to delete this shameful, shameful post.

We will be framing this post and selling it on the main site.

Tis all good man. You are brave enough to use Windows 10 so you have the right to ask as many questions as you need!

Seriously, do it! I realized that in creating my backup, I had assumed that the option to create a system image in addition to my data backup would both create a restorable image as well as the backup scenario I originally configured. Having repaired computers for a living for several years now, I just have to laugh about this kind of issue because it only takes one moment of panic to forget to think. :drinkers:
