Win10 trying to install driver for old hardware

anyone else having this issue?

Win10 keeps trying to install drivers for a video card that I don't have in the system anymore. Old card was AMD, new card is NVIDIA

basically this -> http://www.extremetech.com/extreme/2115 ... onger-have

but in my case, it doesn't finish the install, every time I boot the system I get the "couldn't install driver update" Win10 has been out over a year, and apparently this has been an issue from day one.

I had this issue with my mates amd 7970 I used in my system just to test his card out as he thought it had died due to no display on his system. Windows kept installing the amd driver after every boot then failed as no gpu was detected.

However, display driver uninstaller worked for me to rid all dedicated gpu drivers on my system then I reinstalled the NVidia driver manually and success. Give DDU a try :)

That was my first go to. The Windows updater wont let go of it.

I really hate that M$ blocks access to update control. Getting annoying for sure.

Because outside of a very short list of OEM's, M$ said Win 7 would not be patched to play well with Skylake CPUs and beyond. Kaby Lake will be Win10 only.

I also needed to start using Win10 so by the time I have to deploy it at work (3ish years form now if I'm lucky) I will know it inside and out. Because I am the sole IT guy. So when I get a call early morning or late at night from a non-techy sales person thats in a hotel somewhere and losing their sh*t because their laptop is messing up I can walk them though something over the phone.

To be honest, this update control block is the one thing that annoys me about Win 10. Everything else I have adjusted to and learned where they moved something.

Besides, Win7 will go way of the dinosaur in 2020. So if your rig can hold out another 3+ years awesome. Come time for a new rig its Win10 or Linux.
