I'm looking more seriously into this dedicated game/file server thing and unfortunately it looks like Windows is the OS of choice due to dedicated game server apps not running on anything else. Should I use XP or try to get WinServer for "educational" purposes?

And no matter what I use, what addon program(s) should I have for security, remote admin etc?

The problem is, while I can get SOME Linux versions, some games don't have them (like Halo, Republic Commando and CS:S might not have one).
