Vista RC1 First Impression

Post by Topher »

I've been planning on wiping my main system at home now for a while and reinstalling the OS. My current install is a couple of years old and running clunky. I got a wild hair and decided to install the 64 bit version of Vista RC1 instead of XP Pro.

I gotta say, so far I'm really digging it a lot.

The installer kind of reminded me of a the installers for several different Linux distros, only once you get past the hard disk section, they dumb it down a LOT. Basically, once you get past those first few decisions, the rest of the installer takes care of itself and requires practically zero input.

The interface is sweet also and not quite what I was expecting. I thought I'd have to learn again the new locations for settings and such but so far, it's been very intuitive and I haven't had to "hunt" for any system settings, everythings been easy to find.

I'm thinking I could get used to this very quickly and not want to go back to Windows XP.

Then again.... I haven't ran into my first problem yet....

Nope, not yet.
I'm thinking about trying to set up a dual boot with XP for gaming.

Might be what most vista gamers have to do if the bugs arent cleaned up that want the new OS but the performance of XP.
