You can also buy it and download it from microsoft directly!

It have been available over here for a while..........just the OEM version though. We have it installed on a testbed in work, and I'm actually impressed with it

Dell etc. will start shipping it with new systems from Jan 30th!

32bit version can only run 32bit apps, 64bit can run both.

All that fancy eye-candy jsut slows it down :) I have mine switched back to classic everything ;) no eye-candy needed

Mike

I hope they ship Ultimate QUICK - I want to see how the Media Center is on the final - this RC1 has problems :(
Remember, I am opinionated and nothing I say or do reflects on anyone or anything else but me :finga:

Media Center is GREAT! Just a lot of eye candy but everythings organized a lot more to me!

As far as eye candy...

I've got Outlook 2007, Downloads, Welcome Center, and IE 7.0 + running with one tab and I'm sitting at 42% of ram usuage and 03% CPU usage.

Looks like I really SHOULDN'T have sold that extra 2 gigs... :beatdeadhorse:

I have a MSDNAA with my uni, currently we get business free, will have to see if ultimate becomes available when the main launch is done. I refuses to upgrade yet though as graphics drivers are not up to par and other such drivers are missing/hard to locate.

VISTA Ultimate: 32 or 64 bits ?

Post by BxIrish »

Debate: New install Windows Vista Ultimate. Get 32 or 64 bit version?

Given the plethora of video games that exist, what would the impact be in running these games on 64 bit Vista?

Would your investment be worthless?

The new system would be a Dual Core E6600 or Quad core processor, 680i SLI motherboard, Video at least GeForce 7950GT or 8800GTX.

Any opinions?

Thanks

The game has to be coded in x64 in order to run x64. The arguement has always gone, that x64 is the future, so get something that is capable. I haven't seen any games that are yet. Key word there is yet. I would think there will be a performance hit on games, because if there coded in 32bit, the 64bit is gonna emulate that, and that will cause the hit. Vista Drivers for cards, are iffy right now. But they will get better. I believe there is a 8800 series driver, but its having issues.

And that's exactly right...the Emulated 32 Bit games DO take a hit.

The only game I know of in x64 is Far Cry with a patch...that's it!

x64 is a great thing, but no dev is willing to touch it when the OEM bulleys are playing with peoples heads by not developing drivers for it.
