Apple Boot Camp

Received my copy of Windows XP Home today that I am going to install on my MacBook Pro so I can dual boot using Boot Camp. Why, you ask? Because for school I need to run apps like SQL Server, ADO.NET, ASP.NET, etc (i.e. Microsoft products) so I'll be able to use the on the go as well as at home. Otherwise, I prolly won't use Windows on the MBP hardly at all.

Between other tasks, I'm trying to get everything installed this evening so I may be able to report back any issues that I have (if any ) and see what differences there are. I'm hoping I'll be able to install the most current .NET framework or I'm screwed for most of the apps listed above.

Speaking of, I have a copy of Windows XP MCE that I'll prolly be selling after I track down which damn computer case has the reg key. MCE won't work with Boot Camp.

More to come...

Well, I am happy to report that everything installed fine and if I didn't know I was running on Apple hardware I'd have no clue. I'm gonna run some benchmarks later but suffice to say Windows seems to run quite speedily. I was able to install the .NET framework and SQL Server Express. I also installed the following apps which all run flawlessly as far as I can tell.

>Open Office
>Sygate personal Firewall
>Avast antivirus
>SnagIt
>Alzip (free zip utility)
>GimpShop (Gimp with a photoshop flavor)
>Firefox

Very cool! I have my bootcamp downloaded and my Vista/XP copy ready to go. Only thing I need now is a MacBook Pro to put it on. Have not found the config I want in the refurbs yet...

The RAM is easy to upgrade so don't let that be a factor in the config. Mine came with 1Gb and I popped another gig in after I got it.

Just got it this AM! 17" Glossy, 160GB HDD, 2.33 C2D...

Now, just have to wait for the shipping time... could be up to 10 days before I get it.

Where did you order from? I order mine from MacConnection and they ship out of OH so I usu get it next day :)

I have some issues with the trackpad in Windows acting up. They need to refine the driver.
