Virtual Machine - adding Hard drives

Post by liqnit »

Hi
I am currently running Virtual Server 1.01 on Host Windows 2K3 R2 64Bit.
I have 5 Guest OS 1 Vista 64Bit and 4 WIndows XP SP2 32Bit.

The machine is runing on Tyan 2915 with 2* Opetron 2210 & 8GB memory.
all the VM are on Raid 0 of 2* 250GB HD.

My question :
i have slowdown when all the machine are working , is it better to go Raid 0 and add 2 more 250GB hd?

or use separate HD for each machine?.

Backup is currently not an issue.

Please advise.

slowdown is probably do to the fact that VMs use a ton of ram, and need fast HDDs. On my 7200 drive its really slow, but on my raptor (10K) its noticeably faster. Also a good defrag helps too

I am workinh with RAID so the speed is good
and 8GB of ram is still enough
I want to know if adding 2 more drives to the RAID is better then attaching a single drive to Guest OS?
