question about Windows XP 64
I've been thinking of tryind it out lately. I know its probably not much of a difference but oh well I like trying new things.(computer wise anyway). Anyhow, I popped the cd and tried to install it not too long ago but it wouldn't boot off the cd (like no cd was inside the drive). I checked the bios to make sure it would boot of the cd(on a normal scenario). Windows xp (32bit) reads the cd fine, but I noticed that it had an AMD64 file as well.My thoughts were it wouldn't matter would cpu I had it would work. Its my first time trying to go 64 bit so I have no idea what the heck is up. Any pointers would be appreciated.

I actually like x64 ALOT ! Been using it for about 15 months now , and find it to be a very stable os .
Not sure why your cd/dvd drive does not see the disc though , but dont forget to press "F6" at the start of install , and put in the SATA/IDE/SCSI drivers from the floppy .
This may help too ..... if you use more than a single cd/dvdrom drive , disconnect one of them for the install . Sometime windows gets confused with more than one cd/dvdrom drive and cant find the disc during the initial boot .

I think some versions of x64 edition did only work on a64 chipsets, but at the time it was originally released intel didn't have a 64 processor on the market I don't think. Though it should work. I see no reason why not. mine works fine in most computer's I was going to try it on my friend core two duo soon enough. Cuz we need to wipe his computer clean. If you haven't figured it out by then i'll be able to tell you I think.
