I just put 2 more gb of memory for a total of 4 gbs. Vista says 3070 total.
PC wizard 2007 and Balarc says the right amount. Whats up with this ?

I would read through this thread linked above. I gathered you need a 64 bit O/S for it to recognize the full 4gb. 32bit Vista or XP seem to require the correct BIOS settings or boot.ini to gain more of that last 1gb missing. I would like to hear from our 4gb enthusiasts here on what they experienced and choice of OS.

Someone else noted no single program will use more than 2gb unless compiled to do so (uncommon?)

Most 32-bit OSes/environments have a 32-bit address space (4GB of ram). Various devices and resources need to be mapped somewhere in this address space and this will eat into memory when you start to go past 3-3.5GiB or so.

In windows you should beable to turn on PAE to get past the 32-bit address space limit. You shouldn't do this with 32-bit windows unless you really need to recover the lost memory, as it tends to slow things down.

64-bit windows has the equivalent of PAE (with no performance loss) on by default (last I checked) and should work fine with more than 4GB, but I have not used a 64-bit windows with so much memory myself."

Damn, I wish I had that much RAM< maybe if I won last months contest, heh. Anyways, I think it is a limitation or an incorrect configuration.
