Vista problems with gfx cards

Post by wildlaser »

I just got a Dell E1705/Inspirion 9400, core 2 duo 2ghz 2mb L2 cache, 2GB RAM, and an ATI x1400 (I also ordered a dual pipe nvidia geforce 7900 gs go, but a screw wouldn't come out of x1400-motherboard (just 1 and it began to strip) so dell wants me to send it in under warranty just for the screw, and after I put it all back together mentions they need the HD, well, I may or may not, as long as they give me a new one of same size, I don't care THAT much since I will probably format for XP (think I have to).

Anyways, I notice playing WoW, in particular, that vista is horrible with the x1400, and people say that ATI has better drivers than nVidia for Vista. I wonder whether putting XP on will solve this. What happens is I get a very low frame rate, it started out high then kinda steadily dropped. Also, it skips around, like I will be running, and if I am outdoors, and not in an enclosed space, it skips every few frames, quite annoying, and I actually run/ride SLOWER than everyone else. I know this part is game specific but really, I think Vista is to blame.

Anyone notice this?

I don't know first hand, or with wow. But vista is slower for gaming than xp. There is generally a 5-10% drop in framerate, more in some cases.

So swapping back to XP will help your gaming.

Good to hear, yeah, I didn't plan to stick with it no matter what, why leave something that at least WORKS, vista crashes my firefox all the time, I may make a post on that too actually...
