I just recieved my Vista upgrade from dell (2 months after promised).
I want to know if it is stable enough to make the move up yet. I would hate to upgrade and find out that something doesn't work right then go back to XP and have to reload all of my programs.
anyway, I am playing BF2 and will be playing HL2 and CS:S, also, I dont have a great internet connection yet, and getting vista updates might be a problem... any advice?

From what I have seen, most games work on vista so there should be no gaming problem; the catch is Vista eats up a larger portion of your pc's power compared to XP, thus the performance in those games will decrease, the amount of fps you lose depends on your computer specs.. for example I don't get much FPS on my computer so if I upgraded to vista playing games will not be possible unless i upgrade my ram + graphics card

I have 2 gigs of ram now, so that wont be the bottleneck, and an xfx 7600gt...Im afraid the bottleneck will be in my processor (athlon xp 3200).

Allright, after nearly pulling out all of my hair, I got vista to install without any errors. There are a few things that will not work, example, I cant test the performance of my PC without errors, and the gadgets dont work.
Im also having trouble setting up a dial up connection. When I open network connections, and then set up a new connection, it freezes and explorer has to restart.
Is there a way to completely wipe my HDD with a fresh install of windows XP so I can re-upgrade to vista? When I ran the XP reset it did a new install, but kept all of my old programs and files in the windows.old file. I have a feeling that some sort of error in my drive or something is causing some errors in the new install.
I only have one hard drive, so installing both is not an option, and my vista is an upgrade from dell, so I dont really have the full install.
Edit: I figured out how to boot from the disc, so I am now formatting the drive for a fresh install of XP
