steam games to disk?

Post by skier »

is there a way to put a game you have to download from steam onto a DVD? i don't particularly want to waste DVD's by trying something i'm not sure of, nor do i want to download roughly 10GB of GRID every time i reinstall my OS

any help is appreciated and i'm sure it's a really simple answer

Sure is, right click and select back up. The wizard should let you select the size of the files. You can then burn them to a cd or DVD. I just back them up to the hard drive and don't burn them. Sometimes they get corrupt. I had issues with far cry 2 and had to download it again. Maybe my computer knew far cry 2 was a piece of dodo.

I have Steam installed to a diferent partition and every time i reinstall the OS (which unfortunatelly happens very often lately) I just run the steam executable from the steam directory, it asks me to install the steam service and everything is up and running. It just updates the steam client, connect with user+pass and all the games apear as installed and ready to be played. The configuration for games are lost though. I have to setup video settings for them after an OS reinstall.
Maybe you should try like this also, if you an extra hdd/partition.
