I have a cannon mini DV camcorder and I want to make DVD copies of my raw footage. I have Pinnacle Studio 9 vidoe editing software but it doesn't seem to have a simple "copy" feature. What I would like if its available is some type of sofware that would allow me to simply attach my vid camera to my PC and copy direct to my DVD burner. Is there such a software??

Generally the only way I've seen it done is first importing it to the computer first. But I'm not very experienced when it comes to camera/video editing software, so maybe someone with some more knowledge in this area can help.

As Dan said you would have to import your video to your computer first. Then use a program to convert it to a DVD format so it can be read by all DVD players.
Uleads DVD Movie Factory will do the conversion I believe.
I use it for converting Video Captured files for DVD burning.

windows has a movie editor built in to all xp and newer computers, I bet that will work for you

I have Pinnacle which is very good video editing software and I have used it to import my raw footage to my PC but from there is where the problem starts. I don't actually want to edit any of the footage I just want to copy the whole tape over to disk for long term storage. Pinnacle won't let me do that without actually editing each tape an activity that has been complicated by the fact that the tapes do not all have a constant time stamp which messes the whole process up.

After impoting cant you just save? I know it will have to go throug hthe process of making the dvd since you cant just slap a file ona dvd and play it. Since Pinnacle is made for making movies, that is why it wont do a file backup ;).

I dont believe Ulead will do it either, but my camera broke after 3 uses and Sony SUX so they never did anything about it, so I cant test.

When you import your video, cant you go directly to burn a dvd?

I know in Ulead I could import, then go directly to burn a dvd if I did not want a menu.

For a RAW backup, import the video then save it as either uncompressed or dv-avi I think it is called. You can then convert the dv-avi to anything you want at a later time. I do think the file sizes will be HUGE - maybe REALLY HUGE like 1gb per couple minutes. Like I said I cant test since i cant use my camcorder.

Why not try DVD Photo Slideshow, it can burn your photos or video clips to DVD if you have a DVD Burner....

The most user friendly video to DVD converter I've used is ConvertXToDVD. The only problem I have with it is that it is over simplified. If you want to make fancy menus and animations look elsewhere.
