Hey there guys,

Recently I've been thinking of getting a registry cleaner just in case I've got unused things left over from younger days. Does anyone have a good recommendation? Or are registry cleaners useless?

I never used any registry cleaner apps out of fear of screwing something up and as a result, needing to reinstall the OS.

CCleaner seems to be a good registry cleaner but then again I've never used it.

Ive been using RegSupreme (by Macecraft) for years with great results . Its does cost , but its only $12.95 (basic version) and all updates are free . Works in Xp x64 too , unfortunatly they are still working on a Vista x64 release . They also have a useful forums for questions .

You can dowload the full version for a 30day trial to do a test run before you buy : http://www.macecraft.com/

I like RegCleaner. Used it for years and no problems. http://www.worldstart.com/weekly-downlo ... leaner.exe

I've used CCleaner but it seemed to delete my system restore points. Thought it was my imagination or something else, but made a restore point, ran CCleaner then tried to restore and got the message upon rebooting saying it wasn't successful. Maybe it was a glitch that's been corrected since I last tried it, don't know.

Ccleaner is awesome! cleans out old crap as well as registery entries and has a very small footprint.

CCleaner - for obvious registry fixes (i.e. - I just deleted a program or .exe from my desktop)
PC Tools Registry Mechanic - obvious fixes + deeper scan
Tuneup Utilities 2008 - deep scan (this thing picks up more registry "errors" than anything I've used)

:) I am a new comer to this site as far as a Registered user is concerned; I have used this site as recomended from a PC Repairman recomended. It is an awesome site. I use Spyware Doctor as my main prog. in background, and use Ad-Aware 2007 freeand have had no problems as of yet. Tried Spybot and didn't like it to well. Can't beat ad-aware 2007. I also have used PC Pitstops Optimized 2.0 along with the 1.0 & 1.5 vs. along with ccleaner and works extremely well. I also have PC Tools Reg Mechanic in which raely finds any thing extra. I have honestly had no problems on messing up the registry yet. These are my favorite ones on the market. If you want a real good free spyware prog. , then spyware terminater is very good, runs in realtime also. Thanks for your input also.
