I'm trying to set up a scanner at work. What programs do I need. What do I need to print labels. How can it track inventory. Someone give me a walk through and I'm not illiterate in computers so I should pick it up very quick. But, I've never delt with this before.

IDK much about it but I would think you just need a barcode font, a barcode scanner and either a Access or Excel Database or the equivalent OpenOffice Program...I would think that you could set up a simple database with a simple interface that you could either type the UPC into or use the scanner to scan it in but it's been awhile since that particular class (Access that is). A quick Google search brought up a lot of software but it all seems to run $100-150.

Here's some free barcode dingbat fonts: [link]
And the OpenOffice equivalent of Access: [link]

This site seems to have some information on the subject as well: [link]

I think it would help (if that guide athalad found doesnt cover what you are after) if you tell us a bit more about what it is that you want to set up and what kind of hardware you have got/are getting.

Can't promise that we will be able to help, as tbh it's outside our normal field of expertise, but we're a big enough forum that someone might have knowledge of it.

Can't MS Access organize barcoded info? I have a friend that scanned all of his DVDs into an Access database because people were constantly borrowing his movies, and he had so many it was easy to notice if he was missing one.
