Burning bootable disks

What's a really good FREE (yes, yes, I am a cheapskate) app to burn bootable CDs/DVDs (e.g. slipstreamed Windows disks)? The first time I tried this I used Nero 8 trial because it had Nero's Burning ROM and it worked fine but I'm sorry, I'm just not paying $80 for it. Today I'm using Romeo trial to slipstream RAID drivers onto the Windows CD because the motherboard doesn't have a floppy port and I don't have a USB floppy drive.
I've tried several different apps XPBurner amongst them but, although they'll burn images, none will create a bootable disk.

http://www.cdburnerxp.se - might give that a try, seems comparable to Nero from what I've seen. I've not used it though so be sure to drop back in with a short review if you try it out!

Just another option;
I cant see anyone buying Nero for $80 when it comes with a purchase of a DVD burner (retail not OEM) which costs about $30 from Newegg.

i got it with my $44 lite-on walmart DVD-RW it just gives you a *trial* of mpeg-2 playability, and you have to install it twice because of some stupid error after like 1 week of use

When I bought my DVD burner 2 years ago, it came with Nero 7 which doesn't have direct access to the burning ROM. That's the key to burning bootable disks with Nero. Nero v5-6 does but for some unknown reason won't see my burner. I can only create images which in turn won't boot.
I'll give nLite a try. Now that you mention it, I've "heard" quite a few people "talk" positively about it on different forums.
I'll also check out cdburnerxp.se.
Thanks for the info, guys!
