temporarily vanishing files

Post by skier »

i have a rather old XP Home SP3 and two separate times, clusters of files have vanished, where they go, i have no idea, this time, a bunch of .exe shortcuts, pictures and other miscellaneos files dissapeared, and selectively left a FAH folder alone, and another folder with pics alone, and took just the .exe and client info from another FAH folder wtf is happening

(im defragging now, and gonna search for the files)

and last time this happened, settings for a user dissappeared, clearing the files off the desktop, then a while later, it back to normal

ok, i found the files through searching, and tell me if you can't decipher this:

a duplicate folder was created inside a different folder, picked and chose certain files and folders, moved them, and the FAH folder was duplicated and certain files were moved inside a folder which was moved inside the folder which it moved, and certain files were moved from the original folder, inside the folder that the other folder was moved to, but not in the folder.

:-k sounds interesting. Never heard of that, but I think it definetly is no hardware problem. might not be the mentioned exe virus but something similar.

Its either a virus, or someone is moving files on you. If your the only person that uses the computer its time a format and a reinstall.
