New bios no ide drives work?

ok here is a weird problem. i updated my bios 10 618 and got my memory working. (by the way it was voltage the whole time)
now my ide dvd/cd rom is not working? i even tried an old ide hd which didnt work either.... i put bios 310 back on and i still have no ide hardware working???? did something kill my controllers? i have tried both 1 & 2 with the same results. what the heck happened????
help please!
