Sasser worm suspect arrested

Post by Apoptosis »

BERLIN, Germany (AP) -- German authorities arrested an 18-year-old man suspected of creating the "Sasser" computer virus, which infected hundreds of thousands of computers worldwide, an official said Saturday.

The suspect, a high school student, was arrested Friday and lives near the northern town of Rotenburg an der Wuemme
Another kid bites the dust! The said part is the fact that no one is reporting his name. No 15mins of fame for this lad! Do not pass go, do not collect $200!

Poor kid.... he just wants to show what hes made of...

It is really the fault of the businesses and those who dont update that they got infected. The same flaw was used by MSBlast, if you cant take a hint and update ur software, after countless warnings by MS and other, what the hell is your problem.

I have no sympathy for them, absolutley none, purley their own fault, especially now that MS are offering to send people CD's with the updates ALL on... FOR FREE!

True, but thus guy, (or group) aimed at their local school district computer, among others, seems like overkill to hide some bad grades.
Had he applied him self to something useful he would have had a bright future.
Instead he's the first one caught from the MS reward fund, and they will surely push to have him punished to the fullest extent of the law, as well as any others they find.
I guess they also caught the PhatBot guy in another area of germany too. (don't german kids have anything better to do?)

Very interesting... Bio-Hazard, can you give any more info on what Kaos computer club did?... and how someone could become a member (like were there any requirements, etc.).

You have a very unique perspective by living there for a while.

it would be cool if you could share what you can. :)

We (the club) got busted by the german police a few years ago. Several members got caught hacking into German government systems. As a result, the guys that got caught gave the police all the names of the different members (not good). Anyway, to make a long story short, the cops came to every members house (no search warent, Germans don't need them) and went through everything computer related. They took everything that you couldn't prove you paid for, and in some of the worst cases took all the computer equiptment. Some people ended up going to court and getting huge fines. The Germans don't play games when they catch you, they get pretty nasty....... My ex brother in-law lost all his computers and got a 5000 DM fine. The bad part for me was half of the computers were mine. The good part for me was that I was still in the military and the germans couldn't charge me, that was left to the Americans......I got over on that part.
I pretty much stopped doing that sort of thing anymore, it's not worth it if you get caught, and they will catch you sooner of later. There have been a few times in the few years where I went after someone that tried to hack my system, but I never used a virus or did anything that distroied anything. I think the worst thing I've ever done was delete all the data on a HD that belonged to a boss of mine and put a porn clip that loaded at startup and looped till you turned the system off........I got a big laugh out of that..........
