How to opt out of Facebook’s new profile sharing
To opt out of Facebook’s new profile sharing is a multiple step process:
STEP 1: Go to the “Privacy Settings.” Go to “Applications and Web Sites.” Then go to “Instant Personalization Pilot Program,” and hit edit settings.
STEP 2: For all users there’s an automatic check in the box below, which allows Facebook to share your information with other web sites. You are automatically “opted in.” If you do not wish to share this information, uncheck the box.
STEP 3: Even after you’ve done this, it is not clear whether you need to “opt out” at the sites where Facebook is intending to share your information, like Pandora and Yelp, and soon many more sites. So you will want to look at the upper left hand corner of those sites to see whether those sites are recognizing your Facebook account and activity. Here again, you need to opt out.

I was checked as opted in... I unchecked that box rather quickly.
Wonder if certain countries are opted in then...

Just checked with a mate and he's opted out by default too.
I *think* that the law differs slightly over here in that you have to actually opt in to something like this for it to be considered above board, where over there (the US) you have to opt out.

Looks like privacy laws aren't as strict south of the border. In this case i'm gonna have to go with stricter rules being a good thing

Check out the small print but the opt out checkbox:
So even if you opt out, your friends can opt you right back in.Please keep in mind that if you opt out, your friends may still share public Facebook information about you to personalize their experience on these partner sites unless you block the application.
Re: How to opt out of Facebook’s new profile sharing
only via what you share with them, and then only if its shared as "friends of friends". FB has always been that way, thats why what I do have shared is set to "friends only".
They added something a while back that any of the things you had listed as a like/interest and job was to be made into a URL and page. If you didn't agree to the pages being made or the what they linked you to, you could remove it, but in doing so there would be nothing in your "interested in" and "work" fields. Needless to say there is nothing listed there now.
I don't sign up for the games or contests on FB either, they all want access to my page info but dont list what they are after. Sucks as Intel and Gigabyte both have had some nice contests, and I'm constantly bugged by family to get in farmville.
