Does norton antivirus send you viruses?

does norton antivirus send you viruses if u dont sign with them?
I certainly hope not, but no way to ever find out. There are rumors that companies that make antivirus software also make and spread computer viruses to help sales.
Obviously, if they ever got caught they would get in serious trouble and since virus scanners have been around for over a decade I think someone would have been busted by now.
