Program to restrict interenet looking on Windows 2000

Post by bigblockmatt »

At work, we are on Windows 2000. We have carpet saleman that chill on the interenet all day...not like what i am doing right now on the internet at work...thats a different story :) . anyways, is there a way in either internet explorer, windows or something else that we can set up a restriction to what they are looking at. They need to get to several websites, but not everything.

Thanks!

the easiest and most basic thing is "content advisor" under tools/internet options
What are you trying to block?
If you want to allow only specific sites, you may need some proxy software.

edit

CCProxy is free for upto 3 users
http://www.youngzsoft.net/ccproxy/index.html
very easy to setup and use

also
http://weblocker.fameleads.com/
this doesn't need a "server" pc to run it, and it's also free ;)

ya, i tried the content blocker thing, but the sites that i alllowed come up as a blank white page...i dont understand. I will check out those other sites, thanks!

Mainly the goal is to block everything but a few certain sites.

Windows settings probably won't get you too far for what you're trying to do.

Best way would probably be a software or hardware firewall.

Or using a proxy as ken suggested. :P

I believe those internet monitoring programs like Net Nanny also have a "white-list only" type setting. :P

Websense is what my workplace uses to keep all of us lazy slackers in line. It blocks by categories though, so it might not work for you for what you want exactly. And I think you have to pay for it.
AMD Opteron 1224SE "Santa Ana" = DFI Lanparty UT NF590 SLI-M2R/G
Crucial Ballistix 4x1GB DDR2 800 = Corsair CMPSU-750TX
Sapphire 4870 1GB = Sceptre X20WG-Naga 20" = Logitech X-530 5.1
Seagate 320GB (SATA II) x2 = Samsung SH-S203B (SATA)

i have had a similar question for the people at my parents work and restricting them, but it hasnt been a major thing since they arent the type to go to bad sites. Thank you for the question and some solutions!!! :)
