eDonkey shut down

Post by Topher »

File sharing buffs out there probably already know this but eDonkey was shut down. The RIAA sent it's parent company a Cease and Desist letter and they folded. This is shortly on the heels on of Grokster shutting down too.

A bit more than a C&D.
They agreed to pay $30 million, and permenantly close to settle the claims.
The were caught red-handed and surrendered

I think so. I would imagine the Warez scene will go back to FTP servers, News groups, and mIRC.

Could be wrong though.... Will have to wait and see....

RIAA can always shut down the big places, but they can't shut down all the other things, like http sites, ftp, torrents, etc :|

Be careful, a lot of the file sharing software (Limewire, etc) is notorious for having spyware etc. and there are copycat apps that contain viruses.

I don't think allofmp3.com is going to be around long also or they may go to the different price model :(
