anyone recommend a fairly good DVD burning software that can burn audio/mp3 files to dvd+r disks??

7.5.9.0A is the latest release. You may want to upgrade ;) If you're just interested in burning data and not videos and you don't mind working with Linux, K3b is also an excellent tool. But yes, Nero would definitely be the way to go on the Windows platform.
