I like to try and back up dvds for in car use, sometimes I encounter problems with the dvds that auto open. I get the following error message from dvd shrink "DVD Shrink encountered an error and cannot continue. Invalid DVD navigation structure.

I also get errors when using DVD Decrpyter, like this

Uninstall your DVD drive from device manager and then reboot.

Still the same error message. This only seems to happen with movies that have some sort of flash opening

play a few mins of the dvd first.

Also, instead of ripping the whole DVD, just rip the main movie .vob files.

try smartripper

I use DVDFab (http://www.dvdfab.com/) in combination with AnyDVD (http://www.slysoft.com/en/anydvd.html) and I haven't came across and rarely do I ever come across a DVD that I can't backup.

Both of those errors you mentioned are common from ripper programs when they encounter a new type of copy protection they don't support.

DVD Shrink is still a great tool for shrinking and even stripping out unwanted audio/video from the DVD, but since they dropped support for it such a long time ago, there are plenty of new protections that have come out since then which makes it less reliable for decoding.

Check out AnyDVD like Cypher suggested. Unfortunatly, it's not freeware but is updated very often to stay on top of all new copy protections that come out.
The great thing about it, is AnyDVD sits resident in memory and shows up as an icon on the task tray, it acts as a low level driver and circumvents a DVD's copy protection.

With AnyDVD running in the task tray, you can decode and shrink any dvd with DVDShrink. The two programs working together make the perfect archival tool for your DVD collection.

I use AnyDVD with DVDShrink, Nero and CloneDVD and all of them work pretty well together! I personally like CloneDVD its easy and will take all the crap out before it does an archival backup.

If you intend on buying it, my advice would be to do it before the 21 day trial is up!
I've heard a cpl people complain that they waited till after the trial then bought the key and it didnt work right.
