I'll aim for the X2 chip for now, but as a temporary solution to my dying computer, I'm going to get a 3200+ Venice as soon as I can....can get it cheap from a good friend of mine.
Don't take a 3200+ Venice chip for granted!!! It's still a killer chip.....the fact it comes cheap only sweetens the deal

you wouldn't notice the difference betweek a 3800+ and the 3200+ in most games and in general use! Also If you want you might be able to overclock higher than a 3800+

more than a temp setup!!!
the 3200+ is as far as I know the slowest Venice core AMD chip....This chip would be made because of two reasons normally. Either the chip was made as a faster chip which just didn't make the grade...so AMD lowered the speed and re-branded it as 3200+
More likely they made as faster chip, seen that there was a larger demand for lower end chips (which there always is!), so instead of having a fast chip sitting in a stock room, they brand it as a 3200+ and sell it straight away......they do this because companies like AMD/Intel have to answer to their shareholders every 3mths (quarter), if their quarterly sales are down, stock prices go down.....So they Sell, Sell, Selll.....LOL
It's still luck, but the odds are that chip will OC nicely! --> mayby not to 2.8GHz (some do and above), but your prob good for ~500MHz more....
Are you still thinking of an x800 mod to x850??? Or what's your plans for GFX?

I'm considering it still, however this same friend has a modded 6600 for $150 (has a silencer), so I'm still mulling the option of paying around $35 more for an X800GTO and take my chances with unlocking the pipes on the R423 core.
Actually, there is a Venice 3000+, with a 9x multi, so it's the slowest Venice.

Funny thing is, this "new" revision is called E4, but wait! E4 already exists! And E4 sounds like a back step from E6 for a "new" revisiongvblake22 wrote:Yeah, there is a new Rev. E Venice core coming out too! These revisions are making my head spin.![]()
Frickin' get it right the first (or second time) AMD

Yeah, thanks for pointing that out. I believe the "E4" revision is what the San Diego's have been. I have no diea why Venice was lagging behind at E3. But I guess they're equal now! Anyone think this will have any affect on overclocking potential. Seems as though with a new revision, we'll get a new stepping...rpsgc wrote:Funny thing is, this "new" revision is called E4, but wait! E4 already exists! VR-Zone Posted this and took it down, but Google still has it in cache:
According to INQ, the FX-60 based on 90nm Toledo core will be launch on January 10th and our friends at HKEPC has got hold of a FX-60 clocked at 2.6GHz (13.0 x 200MHz), Dual Core, 2 x 1MB L2 cache, 1.35V VCore and JH-E6 stepping. It will be the last Socket 939 processor of the Athlon 64 FX family where the its successor will be the FX-62 which is Socket M2 based and support Dual Channel DDR2 667. Athlon X2 and FX-60 share similarities since both are dual-core and are based on Toledo core where FX-60 is a essentially a "higher clocked" version of the current X2 4800+ at 2.4GHz. The next X2 in the line will be based on the "Windsor" core and Socket M2 based and will start appearing in Q2 2006. The Athlon 64 X2 5000+ will be clocked at 2.667GHz (8.0 x 333.3MHz) and contains 2 x 1MB L2.

Sometimes it's good for a "leak" to happen now and again.........builds hype...especially since people want to buy for Christmas.....that thread over on XS will mean people may hold off until Jan......$$$$$ ;)Apoptosis wrote:yeah I saw that. Amazing how some people can get away with breaking an NDA. We will have our overclocking results posted when the NDA lifts like all the good little kiddies.
the problem with leaks and ignoring NDA agreements is it hurts people like Nate..... who on several occasions has either been given information about things, or discovered them himself, but has too much class and integrity to disrespect a company.
Several times i have told him to write an article or post information on the forums regarding stuff he knows, and he has never once betrayed a companies confidence.
Some times a company will let something slip intentionally to draw attention, but i have no respect for these sites that repeatedly break NDAs, and further cannot understand how they are given the opportunity over and over again to keep doing it.

I'm not suggesting Nate to break ANY NDA he's under or ever will be.....!
"Straight Up and On The Money" --> Says it all ;)
All I was saying is some companies will "leak" a cherry picked part to build hype......
It's good to see integrity in journalisim, It proves to us we can trust what we read.....
BUT dual 3Ghz @ stock vcore is Sweet........
