Zalman 9700 LED?

Looking for a new heatsink for my CPU and the Zalman 9700 LED seems to be pretty good. If anyone has experience with one of those or any advice for a better air heatsink, feel free to help me choose

...or maybe the Tuniq Tower 120?

I Like it too, for those with smaller motherboards and it up close to the psu like on some 775 motherboards, you might have it touching the psu like it is on my friends but it will fit. The bracket is a pain to put on but you don't need it on amd motherboards. It looks cool and does the job well for an air cooler.

I read several reviews and all gave it rave reviews.
I bought mine from Newegg a while back when they had a Sale going on and only paid $44 with free shipping.
I still havent used it yet

But its coming soon!
I'll probably order the rest of what I need this weekend!

If Apoptosis loves it it must be great!

I have a Zalman 9500 which is very similar and i couldn't be happier with it. As it turns out when i bought it, i thought i was getting the 9700 not realising my mistake till it was too late i ended up with the 9500 but i am more than happy with it.

The only real difference is the size of the cooler, the 9700 has a 110mm fan and the 9500 has a 92mm fan, of course this means the 9700 is bigger overall and that means better cooling, not much but better none the less.

The thermal grease that comes with the 9700 is better than the stuff i got, but i still recommend something like Arctic Silver 5 but i suppose with the stuff you get with the 9700 it isn't essential. There may be other slight differences i couldn't say.

I have heard good things about the Arctic Cooling Freezer 64 as well, as a matter of fact i was going to buy it because it has a very reasonable price tag.

I have also heard good things about the Thermalright Ultra-120 Extreme and the Tuniq Tower 120, both are suppose to be very decent coolers.

There are a couple of others as well such as the Thermaltake Big Typhoon and the Scythe Ninja which is passive.

personally i recommend you Don't get the ninja.. i had issues with the clips being loose on it and apparently so have a lot of others.. why buy a heatsink you might have to modify or buy different mounting for it straight out of the box

I didn't know that, i mentioned it purely because i heard it was a good passive cooler. I am unsure if the Thermalright can be a passive cooler as well, i know it has a fan, but i am not sure if you have to use it.

hi guy new to forum just wondering how i would fit zalman 9700 led on my MSI K8T Neo2-F S939 KT800Pro motherboard not sure if there is mounting hole for the heat sink justneed some one advice

You may have to remove the exisiting heatsink retaining bracket to install it, but that cooler does come with supplied mounting hardware for your board.

I have had my Zalman 9700NT for a while now, I'm am satisfied with it. I got the NT because it looks much better IMO, I prefer the black finish alot more than the copper. Using the Q-Fan feature of my ASUS board I can make it sit under 1000 RPM (with the "Silent" option), which is dead silent and the colling is decent even under full load. The "Performance" option is nice too, it will adjust fan speed with CPU utilization, it does get kind of noisy, but not more than the stock cooler and of course it performs much better. The fan is very quiet under 2000 RPM. Past that it sounds like any other fan and then over 2500 RPM (Max fan speed is just under 2700 RPM) it's pretty noisy.

Nice cooler overall, it's big but theres no clearance issues because of how it's made. The AM2 bracket is annoying to install if you have a vertical socket, but once it's clipped, it's really tight. Can't say anything about the TIM Zalman provides since I don't have AS5 or anything to compare it to. Performs well, although I got it when ambiant temperature got from around 20C to about 24C so my idle temps aren't that great compared to the stock cooler, but my load temps are much better.
