your forgetting two very important variables, price, and overclockablity. Thoses are the two things i look for first then i worry about all that other stuff. A hammer is a hammer, while more cache is a good thing its been shown that the amount of cache on the hammer accounts for very little difference except in some applications.

i think there is a formula. it is something like this:

speed
------ X overclockability = y
price

where y=actual worth.

um..ok that formula sucks, but the bottom line is that the new numbers for both companies mean pretty much nothing. there are some processors and series of processors that OC better than others, and the only way to determine this is to do it, or wait for someone to do it and see what works and what doesn't.

this whole getting away from the MHZ battle is weird to me because this is what we all grew up on. also, we use a sequential numbering system and it's just ingrained in our heads. it's like horsepower. what if car companies started giving random numbers to tell how powerful an engine was. it would totally suck.
