Weird problem with my OC
Weird problem with my OC
System specs:
X2 4200 @ 2705 Mhz
OCZ Platinum PC2-6400 2x 512 @ 773 Mhz
ASUS M2N-E
7300 GT @ 550core/475mem (stock=400/400)
CPU is solid:
Now the problem is, when I play WoW at those settings I get BSODs or fatal errors saying memory couldn't be read. But, I used to play at 2.6Ghz with memory running at 866 and it was perfect, I would never get a BSOD or anything. I don't quite understand why I have so much trouble with the memory running slower, at the same latency settings.
I am pretty sure the problem isn't the video card because I've been running at those settings without a problem for a few weeks, playing WoW and ATITool artifact thing never locks up.
So basically I'm not too sure where to look to try and fix this: overclocked memory runs fine, but underclocked memory doesn't.

Re: Weird problem with my OC
What voltages are you using?
Re: Weird problem with my OC
Try memtest86+ overnight, then try running orthos using the blend option instead of the gromacs core, and see what they spit out.
Re: Weird problem with my OC
WoW just crashed again, so here I am
I guess I'll try memtest tonight.
Max voltage on my pos board, 1.95V, but it never caused me any problems. I'm trying to find someone with 1337 soldering skills to Vdimm mod my board, I have soldered IC's before, but nothing that small.kenc51 wrote:What voltages are you using?

Re: Weird problem with my OC
The max voltages for the RAM is 1.95v on this board but what are your other settings set for the rest of your OC? CPU voltage, etc
Reason is that possibly it may not be your RAM that is causing this problem. It could be other underlying problems.
I too have a 4200+ Windsor on the M2N-E. My RAM is OCZ Platinum REV2 running at 800 5-5-5-15 1.95v (max for this board). I have not played with the OC other than the crap 10% OC profile that is built into this board.

Re: Weird problem with my OC
My CPU is 11 hours ORTHOS stable... 11x 246 = 2706 Mhz @ 1.45V
I use OCZ Platinum too, not the Rev2 though.
I have tried setting my video card back to stock settings and it doesn't change anything.
So now I'm back to 2.6Ghz with RAM running FASTER (866) and I'm not getting any BSODs... I tried more voltage on the CPU, but it doesn't help, just like I thought. I'm going to reinstall XP and dual boot, just to see if Vista is part of my problem.

That or crying out for more cooling.DMB2000uk wrote:Is your northbridge crying out for more volts?

Re: Weird problem with my OC
No and no, because it runs perfectly at 433, but not at 386.dgood wrote:That or crying out for more cooling.DMB2000uk wrote:Is your northbridge crying out for more volts?

Anyways, back to stock for now, currently my noisiest component is my HDD
Re: Weird problem with my OC
we are talking about your motherboard handeling more fsb, not ram speed. as in the increase in processor speed.Zertz wrote:No and no, because it runs perfectly at 433, but not at 386.dgood wrote:That or crying out for more cooling.DMB2000uk wrote:Is your northbridge crying out for more volts?

Re: Weird problem with my OC
Ah, but anyways. motherboard can hit around 320mhz.
And like, 10x 270 doesn't get more errors than 11x 246
Currently testing 9x 300 just to make sure high reference frequency isn't the problem, will let it run until I come back from work tomorrow. RAM still stops ORTHOS after 2 minutes at 600 Mhz... Will try memtest tomorrow. If that fails, I'll head over to OCZ's forums.
