The new cheap OC chip from AMD?

Post by Bio-Hazard » Wed Oct 13, 2004 10:23 pm

It seems that the new AMD A64 90nm CPU have alot of head room for OCing. Anandtech.com got 290x9 (2610 MHz) on air out of several of the new CPUs.

They will love the new 90nm chips because they can buy a 3000+ running at 1.8GHz for less than $200 and still have a good chance of reaching 2.6GHz with very little effort with the same chip. 2.6GHz is faster than any current Athlon 64, and it is, in fact, the speed that we expect from the upcoming FX55 - the new Athlon 64 top-of-the-line. It's been a while since we've seen this kind of headroom on an AMD chip, and those who were waiting for 90nm to get a magic overclocker will get in line to buy the new 90nm 3000+.

That would seem to support the xbit tests on the 90nm Sempron 3100+. looks like we have a winner folks. when the 90nm 3000+ hits retail in volume it should be ~$150 and the sempron is now $100 and will likly drop as sktA is phased out. So here are your new budget overclockers.

The 300 is right around $200 right now, and is supposed to drop to $168 on or about the 18th of this month. It's getting cheaper every week to get into a A64 system.

Gameve.com just listed the A64 s939 today for $185. The cheapest place so far.

Newegg.com now has them listed again. Looks like their hitting the stores in force.
