Help on clocksetting Clawhammer 3700+

Hi.

I've just bought the Clawhammer 3700+ socket 754, and mounted it on my Asus K8V SE DeLuxe board.
But I can't get it to work properly, as the clock is at 800, when it should be at 2400.
I've tried to set the clock in my bios settings, but the system just locks. I tried to set it at v 1.6, but the result was the same.
Aswell as when i tried different clock setting programs for windows. The system just locks as I change the cpu speed.

I have pastet in my CPUz record for information below.

Hope that somone here has a really good suggestion for me?

It's not a problem.
Your CPU supports "cool & quiet". This means it runs @ lower speeds when idle. You can enable/disable this in the bios, and if you plan on overclocking make sure to disable it.

hmm, we don't quite need all that information there >_<

Do you have cool and quiet enabled? Try running something that will stress your CPU and keep CPU-z open to see if the CPU speed changes.

Hi.

Thank You for the fast replys. I didn't now about how much information i s needed. I'm sorry that there was too much.

I've just rechecked, and Cool'n Quiet is off. And the cpu speed doesn't go up more than 0.01 when given high load.

I've though of possible problems:
- The bios doesn't have a multiplier, but the setting is made by choosing a frequency. But I've seen others refer that they have this cpu and MB up running, so it can't be a major cause?
- Perhaps my 400 w psu is too small? How much load will the cpu require extra when set up in speed? It did work flawlessly with my old Athlon 3000+ at stock 2000 MHz.

Go back into the bios and select "load bios defaults" then exit.
After this power off the pc for ~2mins, then see it fixes it.

You can also try to reset the bios, and or update it.

The same result. I've tried to find a newer bios than my present one, but I haven't been lucky to find one on Asus pages. Does anyone make or use alternative bios to flash with?

The power supply shouldn't be an issue with this problem.

Have you had this setup working OK on XP before? Vista could be the problem.

For total problem eliminating, try turning on CnQ in the BIOS and see if vista likes it better then.

No. I have been using Vista Ultimate for a month on my old Athlon 3000+, and before this for 2 Years on XP. So Vista worked with the old CPU.
For total problem eliminating, try turning on CnQ in the BIOS and see if vista likes it better then.

Did this, but theres no change in speed. I still get 800 MHz. :?

Vista has a C&Q driver pre-installed. Try set the power/performance profile via control panel, it could be set to maximum battery :?

Hi.

Now I've tried this. Didn't work.

But I've been googleing my problem and found out that the problem might be that its an engeneering sample. The FSB is unlocked and this doesn't work together with the Asus K8V Se DeLuxe. I've contacted the seller of the cpu, and I'm going to return the CPU.

I'll order a new one in stead that will be a mobile version of the 3700+. The only problem with this should be wether my Zalman CNPS 7700-Cu cooler will fit the mobile core. You wouldn't by chance know?

I know this thread is old but it's so wrong I had to join and post

I have the exact same mobo and CPU: 800MHz is correct for this chip's HyperTransport FSB. It's not the CPU's processing clock (=2.4GHz). Don't worry about it. Too late now of course, cos you returned it to seller!

Does CPUz on your rig read as "Core Speed 801.1 MHz (4.0 x 200.3 MHz)" too?

OK,I'm back cos I made a mistake...

Just been experimentin' on my PC and had to reset the BIOS... after which My Computer Properties and CPU-Z said it was running at 800MHz! It used to say 2.4GHz.... It's many, many months since I set the thing up so I'd forgotten this stuff. :oops:

So, found the Advanced \ Jumperless Config in the BIOS and set the following settings for the CPU to make it work properly (it does now work as it should). Maybe auto settings don't work cos there're no locks on the engineering CPUs.

Core voltage 1.5v
Speed 2400MHz

The speed range is settable in the range 800-3000MHz.

*EDIT* : Forgot to mention, CPU-Z shows 2403MHz (12 x 200)
