AMD prepares more price cuts on August 13th

Post by Apoptosis »

A couple weeks ago AMD said they are done cutting prices and now they are saying they are cutting them again... Not a smart move IMHO...
A missive from Bixler's boys in AMD's "North America Regional Marketing Team" to its channel partners says the firm will cut the price of some of its socket AM2, Athlon 64 X2s on August 13th.

The Athlon 64 X2 4000+, the 4200+ and the X2 4400+ will all have their prices cut. The firm isn't saying by how much yet, however.

I'm holding out until they just start giving them away.... [-o<
Don't ask me, cause I know nothing! I'm lost in this world of technology and am barely holding my head above water. Thank the Good Lord for LR, otherwise I would have drowned years ago.

Well I was all ready for the price war to be over. I am beginning to wonder how much more AMD can sustain of these cuts and the subsequent losses.

It's better to sell something than nothing. Since AMD has this FAB down I doubt they get very many bad wafers. So I have a feeling they don't cost very much to make, package, and distribute. If they were losing money, which they aren't, on CPU sales it would still be better to sell something rather than nothing. Hell VIA doesn't make squat in the CPU arena but they still make and sell them.

awesome, I'm in the market for an AM2 dual core, and finally the price drop happens before I buy instead of after!
