AMD Phenom X4 CPU Pricing - X4 9700 is $288

Post by Apoptosis »

ISA Hardware has leaked AMD pricing... It doesn't show up under desktop processors, but if you search for 9600, 9700 or just the keyword Phenom the prices are clearly seen.

HD9500WCGDBOX - CPU Desktop Phenom X4 9500 (4MB,95W,AM2) box - $247
HD9600WCGDBOX - CPU Desktop Phenom X4 9600 (4MB,95W,AM2) box - $278
HD9700XAGDBOX - CPU Desktop Phenom X4 9700 (4MB,125W,AM2) box - $288

Check out the prices here for yourself - http://www.isahardware.com/info/
Before the end of the year, AMD's Spider platform containing 790FX motherboards, Radeon HD 3800 graphics cards and the eagerly-awaited Phenom quad-core CPUs will be released. The Phenoms are set to AMD's first quad-core desktop try and unfortunately it seems that they won't enjoy a great start. The first Phenom CPUs are set to be the X4 9500, 9600 and 9700, all AM2 part and all leaked on a CPU list of ISA Hardware, one of AMD's distributors. As seen here, the processors, the 2.2GHz 9500, 2.3Ghz 9600 and 2.4GHz 9700 (all box versions) have their preliminary price tags set to $247, $278 and $288 respectively, excluding tax. At these prices two Phenoms, the 9600 and 9700 are placed above Intel's Q6600 (2.4GHz, 8MB L2 cache) which costs $266 while the 9500 will be cheaper. Now all we need is some performance results and the actual CPUs released.

Those prices confuse me... the price spread seems too close. In my eyes, everyone is going to buy the X4 9700 to get the better processor for only $40 more than the low-end. There is no 'budget', 'mainstream', or 'enthusiast' differentiation with those prices... so why would anyone buy the 9500 or especially the 9600?

I have a fishy feeling that those prices may have just been filled in to create some hype... but come launch day, the prices may be 'updated.'

I'll predict that the 9700 price is close to accurate... but that being the case, I would have expected the 9500 to be closer to $150-$200.

Of course, this is all just my opinion... it's probably wrong :snakeman:

i'm thinking the prices will go down a bit to be honest... If the Q6600 remains at $269 then the X4 9700 should be around $250 to $260 range.

I wonder if AMD will keep the pricing this tight on the 9600 to 9700 because of the 'green factor'... Notice the 9700 has a total power usage of 125W and the 9600 has just 95W. Sure you get an extra 100Mhz with a half multiplier or whatever, but more voltage (heat and power consumption). Is it worth going up 30W for $10? The $30 gap between the X4 9500 and X4 9600 makes sense...

Unless they clock really bad, thus needing much more voltage, I don't see how 100Mhz could increase the rated TDP by 30W.

Those prices are pretty good anyways, 200-something is what I paid last year for my X2 4200

those prices dont seem toooo terrible, and i am guessing that they will also have another CPU for "budget" systems (lower than the 9500) not that i actually know anything about it whatsoever

and are the triples coming a 1/4 after the quads still?, i wonder what those prices'll be :-k

links don't work... if you see something take a screen shot next time!

ISA Hardware took their pricing down, but who cares as I took a screen shot that is hosted here on LR.

I noticed the prices increased alot to... that really can't be good. My pre-order price was $298 and now they advertise it at $331.

I think Nehalem is going to be really expensive...

about power consumption... 125W TDP is peak, right? i was under the impression that AMD had really done some work with idle power consumption. for many of us on here, that may not be that much of an issue :P but for the average consumer, that's a huge deal.

Those prices are too bad but I most likely go with Intel until I see some more reviews/feedback but more importantly the overclocking potential of these chips.

AMD Phenom 9500 Quad Core Processor 2.2GHZ 4MB 95W Socket AM2+ - $270CAD
AMD Phenom 9600 Quad Core Processor 2.3GHZ 4MB 95W Socket AM2+ - $295CAD
AMD Phenom 9700 Quad Core Processor 2.4GHZ 4MB 125W Socket AM2+ - $320CAD
There is no theory of evolution. Just a list of animals Chuck Norris allows to live.

i dont think amd is going to be able to compete with intel in terms of top of the line high porformence procesors. they are going to have to find another way to make money and i dont think those triple cores are gonna sell to well either

It's peak and AMD is changing the way they measure power too... Thanks for posting that as I forgot to mention that...

AMD's New Processor POWER MEASUREMENT DETAILS:
In answer to our customers who have asked for a more accurate and fair way to market their system power consumption, AMD has introduced ACP (average CPU power) wattage ratings. You can expect AMD to release these ACP power specifications for the Phenom processors after the embargo is lifted. The ACP ratings will be significantly lower than the maximum wattage TDP ratings. Please see the following links (created for the "Barcelona" native quad-core Opteron launch) for more information about ACP:
http://www.amd.com/us-en/Processors/Pro ... 53,00.html
http://www.amd.com/us-en/assets/content ... P_WPv7.pdf

As for idle... if they made big changes they really needed it as our idle with and without Cool'N'Quiet technology enabled was very high.
