HI, at the moment I've got an AMD sempron 2400 socket 462. Is it worth upgrading just the processor or should I get a new board with a different socket? If it is worth me getting a new processor what would you recomend?........

You can upgrade to the highest AMD Sempron 3000+, 2 GHz, 333MHz, 512KB Cache for socket 462.

or

You can upgrade to the highest AMD Athlon XP Barton CPU socket 462 that runs at 333MHz.

I would highly recommend the motherboard and cpu upgrade. Don't be shy about looking at Intel as they currently give a real nice performance boost over similar AMD chips.

CPU, Mobo, and ram upgrade. Not much life left in a 462 socket, go with an AM2+ or an Intel 775.

how much were/are you looking to spend to upgrade? i know you were thinking just a CPU but to be honest i gotta agree with these guys. you'd be surprised what a little bit of money will get you performance-wise today.

...OK, so I go for a MB and processor upgrade. I've seen some MSI boards that I like the look of. What do you think of them?...
Cheers, JOn.

I recommend the Gigabyte P35 DS3L. It is really hard to beat for the money. Add to that 2Gb DDR2-800 ram and an E7200 and you're set with a very nice PC for a very good price. 8)

Not sure about your video card as I'm not real familiar with those.

This is one of the MSI boards. They're defonatly in the budget range but I can't see anything wrong with this one

I', not looking for anthing with all the bells and whistles, if possible I would even prefer a board without onboard sound.
What do you guys think?

Maybe you should look into something with integrated graphics, somethink like a 780G motherboard.

That's roughly 100$, add an AMD processor for under 100$ and 2GB of RAM for about 30-40$ and you've got a computer that totally destroys your current one!
