You should only do this if you have a heatsink or water block that screws onto the motherboard, using an xp-90 or the like which use a P4 style bracket will crush your core. Also ensure that your heat sink does not cover the FULL socket if it makes contact with the high part, where it says socket 939, then it will not sit on the core flat and could crush your core or cause poor thermal conductivity.
Steps
1. Use a single edge razor like the one in the picture
2. place the edge between the substraite and IHS in a corner
3. Rock back and fourth the razor while aplying careful presure
4. once you feel it cut through the glue start to move along the sids
5. let the razor do all the work dont use to much presure or you can dammage the chip
6. after cutting all the glue rotate the IHS and pull up gently until the IHS pops off
