***LegitReviews and I take no responsiblity if you try this and kill your chip***
You should only do this if you have a heatsink or water block that screws onto the motherboard, using an xp-90 or the like which use a P4 style bracket will crush your core. Also ensure that your heat sink does not cover the FULL socket if it makes contact with the high part, where it says socket 939, then it will not sit on the core flat and could crush your core or cause poor thermal conductivity.
Steps
1. Use a single edge razor like the one in the picture
2. place the edge between the substraite and IHS in a corner
3. Rock back and fourth the razor while aplying careful presure
4. once you feel it cut through the glue start to move along the sids
5. let the razor do all the work dont use to much presure or you can dammage the chip
6. after cutting all the glue rotate the IHS and pull up gently until the IHS pops off
Enjoy ~infinite
btw thanks to Hoot over at ocforums for the encouregment.

ever used a swiftech MX159 chipset heatsink/fan ? in the package they include 2 round black stumps that you apply to the chipset pcb to help protect the core from being crushed.
Could you do the same with those black stumps on a bare AMD64 cpu ?

Im sure you could but i doubt that they provide and real protection against crushing your core. With the xp-90 it has more to do with the way the heat skink mounts than any thing else.

All those years spent wishing AMD would use a heatspreader, all those crushed cores.....
amazing.
