i think he would need a lot more cooling than just air or water for that.

I dont think the fx 57 can overclock as well per se as slower processors, since the fx 57 is already pushing the limits of the cpu right?

One of the things people have been saying is that the FX-57 is a really poor overclocker. A lot of people (me included) are pretty disappointed by its showing thusfar. If nothiung else, if you have the $1100 to spend, the X-2 4800 is a much better alternative.

depends on how you look at it how many cpus you see able to hit 3000ghz at pretty much near stock vcore ?

Super Pi v1.4 mod
1M = 27.563s
2M = 1min 03.094s
4M = 2min 18.516s
8M = 5min 02.672s
16M = 11min 08.766s
32M = 24min 07.454s

15x200HTT = 3014 1.39v

Single BFG 7800GTX @532/1377
3dmark2003 = 18,860

11x274HTT = 3014 1.39v

Single BFG 7800GTX
3dmark2003 = 19,035
3dmark05 = 8,951

thats really a bunch of neat and pretty pictures that show a 200MHz overclock, which has been the ceiling for the most part. Just my opinion, but really not worth the price or the wait when you take X-2s into account.

I'd still sleep with him to get the computer....I'm sad and pathetic I know :(

I'm in no way implying it is not a good processor. I'm just saying the performance to price is a bit disappointing, and given the choice of an FX57 or anX@, I take the X2 in a heartbeat

Dual core = good. FX series = good. Depends on your needs, but the FX series has always been overpriced IMO.

each his own

i've played with 3000+, 3200+, 3500+, 3700+, 4000+ cpus and being stuck on 9x multiplier suxs, 10x okay, 11x better, 12x good but cpu can't max out my memory and their memory controllers aren't as good as FX-57 (alot of memory testing)

so if i went with X2 i'd need at least 4600/4800+ and 1MB cache is my preference so i would need X2 4800+ which is still more than FX-57 and with next month price cut 4800+ probably come down in price more than FX-57

anyway i'm happy

BFG 7800GTX SLI @529/1377
3dmark05 = 14,264

Actually, everywhere I looked, the FX57 is $20-100 more than the 4800+

here FX-57 between AUD$1,508-1,547 vs X2 4800+ AUD$1,632-1,720

I'd go with the FX-57 over the 4800. What about you guys?
