OCing A64 3400 939 pin

My processor has a NewCastle core and stock cooling (well, not AMD, Masscool, got the fan in a bundle at TigerDirect). Is 2.6GHz possible? I'm not trying until I get some opinions. I OC the crap out of my 6800NU (425/1000, not usable, dropped it down to stock so Halo works right) but for some reason OCing the proc to me is forbidden....

First get an aftermarket cooler...

I have my socket 754 clawhammer 3400+ @ 2.5 I believe. It comes stock at 2.2. I have watercooling on it, and that is the max I can push it too without lowering multipliers and tweaking it too much. As it is, I max temps at around 50 under full F@H 24hr load.

I thought these ran cool...even without C&Q

Well I don't know if they do or don't, how about you check your bios temps and based on that decide whether or not to OC.

the A64 runs cool when compaired to the Pentium 4 and Pentium D, but its still hot, mine runs between 44-48c at 2.6ghz and using a lapped SLK-948.

FX series has more cache so you couldn't OC a 64 to an FX

Aren't the 939's 3500+?
The 754 were 3400+

OK, I'm going to actually do it! *deep breath* But first, how can you tell your OC might be causing damage?

When the magic smoke gets let out
hahaha, jk

Yeah, run some tests for stability (3DMark, Aquamark, Prime95, Memtest86+) and if it passes the tests, and the temperature hasn't hit 50 degrees celcius, then you shuld be good to go. But if you fail any of the tests of your temps are just too out of control, then bad things start to happen. Also make sure the motherboard chipset is not overheating and that your PSU is beefy enough to feed power to your newly starving OC'd system.

I'd say 2.6Ghz is about the max you're gonna get out of a Newcastle, even a 3400. But 2.7 may be possible with good cooling (Thermalright XP-90). What RAM do you have? What Motherboard? What Powersupply? List your system specs and settings and we can get a better idea of what you're up against :)

UPDATE: 2.4GHz crashes on stock volts. How many extra volts is safe on stock air? I'm looking for a better air cooler, feel free to suggest something...

Stock air i wouldn't take it over 1.55v. Check your temps as you raise up your vcore, anything over 45c idle and 55-60c load is to much.
