HP ZV6000 laptop Socket 939 CPU Upgrade possible to what?

The 5th row of the table in that link shows my NewCastle processor AMD part # ADA3200DEP4AW - I know this by using the latest CPUID program called CPU-Z.

Following the NM manufacturing size, voltage, and socket etc.. do ya'll think I could put this cpu in my laptop (HP ZV6000 series laptop; specifically the ZV6131US) and have everything run fine?

2nd row in the table for that link: AMD part number: ADAFX55DEI5AS - for the AMD 64 FX-55

Furthermore, would the upgrade be worth it? Would I actually "NOTICE" speed improvement?

Or could I even try an Opteron or Sempron processor (if I could find one) for Socket 939? What that be a better worthwhile performance upgrade?

Laptops are very difficult to modify, and I'm not sure if you COULD change it if you wanted to. I also know that laptop-specific CPUs are, comparatively, very expensive. Don't take my word for it though, I've never tried (although I've wanted to) :)

I have no doubt I could eventually get to my CPU and replace it, but what I really wanna know is the answers to the last 4 questions in my 1st post. If its not going to yield a noticeable/visual speed improvement, then it isn't worth all that trouble. If it is worth the trouble, then I'll post back the results because as far as I've seen NO ONE that has talked about this anywhere for these old laptops recently or a couple years back never posted follow-ups.

An improved CPU will definitely give a marked improvement, just like an updated hard-drive and RAM. It will boot the computer, run games and apps faster and smoother, although boot time is most significantly influenced by hard-drive speed. Multiple applications being run at one time will be improved by better RAM, but pretty much CPU affects everything you do on your computer, upgrading it will give a big performance boost.

wow nice laptop wasn't aware they made any 939 laptops. If you find an fx55 cheap it would probably be worth the upgrade. Your gaining %30 in clock speed and the 1mb L2 cache. I noticed a big jump just overclocking my 3500+ from 2.2 to 2.6. You also get the SSE3 instruction set with the san diego core which can give some good increases in encoding processes. On the other hand finding a cheap fx55 is not an easy task and its probably not worth spending a lot of money on. You can find 4000+ san diego cores fairly cheap though. You only lose 200mhz and get all the other benefits.

Thank you guys.

I have found at least 2 references, elsewhere on the net, that 2 people did successfully upgrade to FX-55's and it worked on my model laptop. Yes, I'm very happy with this laptop and its reliability and didn't even know socket 939 in a laptop was uncommon.

What are the chances a FX-57 would work since the FX-55 did for 2 others?

What are the chances then, if YES to the above, that an Opteron 154 would work? It is the Opteron equivalent to the FX-57.

Then....lol... if the Opteron 154 would work, would the Opteron 156 work too? FX-57 and Op 156 seem to be the highest you could go with a 939 from what I read.

Lastly, is there a worry about manufacturing process size (nm) when considering upgrading a processor in general and specifically in my case? Currently I'm using a 130 nm socket 939 processor, but moving to the ones above would mean going to a 90 nm size unless I picked the FX-55 clawhammer. I am thinking though that "nm" is simply only relevant to the internal operations (smaller the speedier) in the CPU and doesn't matter elsewhere in the motherboard. Is that right?

Probably the other CPUs would work. The size (in nm) is an internal measurement in the CPU. A different size shouldn't affect the usability of the CPU, so long as it is the same socket.

I figured that too, but its great to have experienced people's input. If I do this it'll be in the next month or two. I will post results, not that many care about socket 939 anymore, but whatever.

Did you ever try one of these faster chips? I'm considering an Opteron 156 San Diego. I have an Athlon 64 4000+ San Diego e4 in my zv6000 and I might try the Opteron 156 San Diego e4 in my brother's zv6000. I think at best it will work and be extra hot for the notebook, but I'd like to hear if anyone has indeed tried it.
