Rumors are all over the internet that AMD is planning on releasing four Phenom II X6 processors in Q2 2010... Anyone excited about these new AMD offerings?
SourceInitially, AMD will be releasing three Phenom II X6 variants - 1075T, 1055T and 1035T. The first two are expected to be 125W TDP, with the 1035T at 95W. However, Fudzilla reports rumours of a fourth variant, with a TDP of 140W.
The Phenom II X6 CPUs are on track for Q2 2010 release, rumored to be some time in May. This will be two months after Intel release their six-core Gulftown, though that will sell in a completely different performance segment.
The three Phenom II X6 CPUs are rumored to clock at 2.8, 2.6 and 2.4 GHz, respectively, though some rumors claim speeds of 3.0, 2.8 and 2.6. The fourth, freshly rumored CPU, will probably be clocked 200 Mhz higher than the 1075T, at the expense of 15W higher TDP. The Phenom II X6 products are expected to compete with Lynnfield Core i5/i7 quad core CPUs, though the Phenom may fall behind in non-multithreaded tasks. AMD will look to reduce the damage with a newly added performance boost feature to the Phenom II X6. However, this is something Intel has perfected over a generation with the Turbo feature. In strongly multi-threaded tasks, the Phenom II X6 might be a tough opponent, especially for the non-HT Core i5 quad cores.
Phenom II X4 900T quad core CPUs are rumored as well - which may have two cores disabled from the six-core Thuban die. The first such CPU is expected to be the Phenom II X4 960T, though any further information is sketchy.
