AMD Phenom II X6 Processors in May 2010

Rumors are all over the internet that AMD is planning on releasing four Phenom II X6 processors in Q2 2010... Anyone excited about these new AMD offerings?
Initially, AMD will be releasing three Phenom II X6 variants - 1075T, 1055T and 1035T. The first two are expected to be 125W TDP, with the 1035T at 95W. However, Fudzilla reports rumours of a fourth variant, with a TDP of 140W.

The Phenom II X6 CPUs are on track for Q2 2010 release, rumored to be some time in May. This will be two months after Intel release their six-core Gulftown, though that will sell in a completely different performance segment.

The three Phenom II X6 CPUs are rumored to clock at 2.8, 2.6 and 2.4 GHz, respectively, though some rumors claim speeds of 3.0, 2.8 and 2.6. The fourth, freshly rumored CPU, will probably be clocked 200 Mhz higher than the 1075T, at the expense of 15W higher TDP. The Phenom II X6 products are expected to compete with Lynnfield Core i5/i7 quad core CPUs, though the Phenom may fall behind in non-multithreaded tasks. AMD will look to reduce the damage with a newly added performance boost feature to the Phenom II X6. However, this is something Intel has perfected over a generation with the Turbo feature. In strongly multi-threaded tasks, the Phenom II X6 might be a tough opponent, especially for the non-HT Core i5 quad cores.

Phenom II X4 900T quad core CPUs are rumored as well - which may have two cores disabled from the six-core Thuban die. The first such CPU is expected to be the Phenom II X4 960T, though any further information is sketchy.

I'm hoping that the second release of these will really give the i7 a run for its money....

AMD is having hard time to catch up with Intel's core i7. 6 cores sure would be nice but if they cannot be able to compete in the single/dual core performance against the core i7/i5, they would have to sell it at significantly lower price which will not be too lucritive for the company. The good news I guess is that at lest they are making quite a lot of money off the hd5000 seriees. Of course, that is if they can ramp up the hardwares:)

295.00 for a 6 core cpu... sounds like a great deal when compared to the 1000+ cost for the 980X. my my so much new technology is coming out so rapidly. the 5000 series, 890 chipset, and soon the Thuban and the Leo Platform will be complete.

I think I'll trust that AMD knows how much it costs them to make CPUs.

Side note, if AMD can sell processors so cheap and they are amazing. How much is Intel raping everyone...

estimated price for the Thuban 1090T is around 295 dollars and the current intel six core is is around 1,119 dollars so there's about 824 dollars of raping difference. AMD FTW!

The turboboost equivalent is a really nice touch. I wouldn't mind seeing something emulating hyperthreading for heavily multithreaded applications.

also to add that AM3 boards are much cheaper than X58 ;)
i too am not sure if intel is going in the right direction

Yeah I've been listening to an interview with Damon Munzy from AMD a few hours ago and it really piqued my curiousity. The price is really making this a very tempting product. Also would love to see how that new Turbo-Core of theirs performs when the reviews come out.
