i have never seen e6 but if I would have to guess, the E means the E stepping for the amd64, which is based on the venice core, which runs cooler and have see3 extention, so in short, yeah, it's better.

Like, Samsamha said, the E6 is a newer stepping and should overclock better since it dissipates less heat. But according to reviews I've found and rumors I've heard, it not neccesarily the case. Better overclocking results in that case is more like pure luck than any big difference between the two steppings.

Yeah, E6 is like a revision to the E3 revision. Crazy AMD
I would agree with zachtig, I've seen some results showing decent clocks out of the E6's, but other people get nothing better than an E3. So I wouldn't expect to see a better overclock, but I guess if you had the choice, you might as well grab an E6 since it is the latest revision.

the E5/6 is just minor fixes for the integrated memory controller, but it's still finiky. the solutions are to try using different DIMMs slots and voltages. but the core is a decent upgrade. it's a .09µ process core with lowervcore of 1.4v and has SSE3.

your miliage will vary, mostly due to the unpredictable integrated memory controller.

i'm buying the Mobile 754 4000 Newark and it has the E5 controller and most people are running 3.0ghz with a 13x multi on air and 3.2~3.4ghz on water with a 13x multi.

I was a bit concerned about my 3000+ when I first got it hoping it wasn't a E6 stepping as I heard these don't OC as well as E3 steppings.

i have seen prime95 full screenies of a 345 HT Bus on the 754 nf3 250gb DFI mobo using an E6/.09µ core with an 8x multi for every day use. acouple of people could, but that was running 1x512 stick of ram. running two stick will be more of a challenge, but i like them, :) .

bigtoe from XS (OCZ Tony) got an beta board for bug testing. the 754 nf3 and with a beta bios he had it running a 425HT Bus (DDR850) with a 4x multi of course.

well, my new build is about to get up and running the 754 DFI nf3-250 socket, so i'll be having a tougher time to push the mem bus anyways, lol i'll be running 2x512..should be fun. just waiting on some parts for the water b/c i had to modify it a little with eblow.

i'm just glad i can still use my current vid card agp video card.

well, i'm waiting on two low volume shippers of some watercooling parts so that's taking longer than expected. i can't cut hose or rig up my h20 system until i get the parts. once i get the parts, i have to go thru to "test and fit" period also testing 24 hours for leaks.

once that is complete, and i have to have it done with the water first, b/c the Modile 4000 is an OEM chip and i have no A64 coolers. the top of which it has, has no IHS so i need a hsf that is the thru motherboard type fittings.

so screw all that, lol. i'm just waiting for my new h20 bits. but then after thats complete. i need to familiarize myself with it and it's new memory settings; which btw, i know i'll be able to ask for help here from people like LP and others, if i get stuck.

then i would tell you about the whole raid0 issues where you can't run 16K Stripe and 16K cluster b/c of slipstreamed SP2 winXP. but i think i have a handle on that one. but that'd take too long, lol.

then i can start overclocking it and having some fun with it.

p.s. i might take a couple of photos of it if it deosn't look too cluttered at first.

TGM do you need a through board heatsink until stuff gets there? because i have a Thermalright SLk800U sitting around.

kenc51 lol, thanx for your props :)

ya, i could use that for air at first, then once the water is all done i could plot out the differences that water made on the overclocks. i have a good TT SF/II 80mm

but how fast could you get it over here? so that it would actually make it before i get the water done.

i dunno, it'd be c00l to see what it'd do on air; then on water....

it's up to you if you'd like to send it. PM me if you'd like to do that.
