The Thubans

Post by Kaos Kid » Wed Feb 02, 2011 6:58 pm

What's the real difference between the 1090t and 1100t? Most say the 1090t clocks just as high as the 1100t once you do a minor tweak, but when AMD advertises them it usually mentions the 3.7Ghz turbo feature on the 1100t but not the 1090t. Will the 1090t also turbo, just not as high (say 3.5Ghz)?

Now that the 1090t has dropped to sub-$200, I want to get one or the other. What makes the 1100t worth $40 more?
I have come to the conclusion that "FaceBook" should be renamed "FacePalm"

in reality, the 1055T clocks just as well as the 1100T, just the 1100T is a lot easier, as is the 1090

If I was going to get another AMD system it'd be the 95w 1055T

ALL AMD Phenom II chips can clock the same on any decent board (unless the board has crap FSB limits) and are always limited by temperatures first. for most cooling, the limit is between 3.9-4.3GHz (some chips are better for clocking anyway as is always the case, usually based on the week it was produced and where it was on the wafer, my 1055 wasn't the best week, but was a decent number off the wafer) doesn't matter if it's a Phenom II X2 550 or an 1100T, if you load in the upper 50s then you cant clock any higher, period.

Isn't the 1055t 125w also? The reason I was looking at the 1090/1100 was for the unlocked multipliers. Plus there is only a $20 difference between the 1055t and the 1090tBE, why not go for the 1090t?

the 1055T was originally available as 125w, but there was a revision released later that was 95w tdp

get the 1090 and be done with it

1100T and 1090T are basically the same; same core, everything. The 1100T is just a more closely-inspected 1090T. The 1100T has a stock speed of 3.3GHz with turbo to 3.7GHz...and looking at my 1090T's packaging...it's stock frequency is 3.2GHz and turbos to 3.6GHz.

Just became a moot point, TD had the 1100T on special for only $199 and I couldn't resist it. I am intrigued by the 95w 1055T that skier mentioned though, seems like that would be a no-brainer for an HTPC or other type of small form factor case with so-so ventilation.

$199?! wow that is a good buy. Lucky you were able to see it on sale. :)

Does this mean the X4 955 BE is the same CPU as the 965 BE that costs $20 more?

yes and no, because the 955 is actually known to clock better  (not really sure why, just get better clocks on 955 than 965)

as a generalization, with the same architecture get the cheapest Black Edition you can because it can clock as well if not better than the more expensive version (with the exception of the PII X4 970 because it broke 7.2GHz before it was even released publicly)
