Last I heard, the 8170 was to come out in Q1 of 2012. Does this still hold true? Now let's speculate. With the higher clocks and the ability to overclock even higher, will this cpu compete with the 2600K? I think it will be able to knock off the I-5s that are still being compared if they allow it to be tested as it should. The AMD's are designed to run with faster memory, compared to Intel, why not test it that way? They need that advantage. If we found an overclocked 8150's benchmarks, it would likely translate to the 8170's benchmarks. I think I may hold out hope for the Piledriver with my new 990FX mobo.

Has anyone heard if AMD will make use of "FUSION" technology so that the Bulldozers perform better when paired with the new HD7000 series GPUs?

According to various road maps, the Trinity APU will begin production in March of 2012. Trinity APU's will have up to four next generation bulldozer (piledriver) cores and an AMD 7000 series graphics core. Early benchmarks floating around the interwebs suggest anywhere from a 20-30% increase in performance over current Llano APU's.

As for the FX-8170, not sure of a time frame for these. In fact the only noise I've heard on new model numbers is the FX-6200 which is a 6 core 3.8GHz CPU which may even have new stepping.

Thanks for the info. The FX6200 sounds like an interesting chip with potential. :)

I'm still waiting for it.....
The other 2 chips came out (4170 and 6200 I think).
