single channel and dual channel for a single core cpu make zero difference. the sinlge core cpu can only make use of 3200mb/s for 754's 800mhz FSB and the 939 can only make use of 4000mb/s for the 1000mhz FSB, thats is. dual channel at DDR400 makes a bit more bandwidth than that, but the core still only cna make use of 4000mb/s b/c of the internal 1000mhz FSB.infinitevalence wrote:it should be a good OC, just too bad its only single channel memory. I like that extra 5%
for instance if we were running a 1000mhz FSB cpu with a single channel memory controller, then we'd see official support for DDR500 or PC4000 memory from JEDEC. but instead of make a whole new standard, they just used a dual channel memory controller on the cpu and kept the JEDEC standard of DDR400.
now if you're talking about the difference between the Dual Core 939 and the single core 754, then the cpu, having two cores, that will make a difference. but only if it's a Dual Core CPU.

Re: AMD FX-60 Overclocking on Stock Heatsink and Voltage
gawd, this is making me want my RAM's mobo, vid card, and pump back right this very second. i'm dieing here, lol. 3200mhz using the Mobile 4000 was my top with only 3 days to work on it. i still need to learn all the new cpu/mem settings on my, now on RAM, nf3 DFI LP-UT mobo. i'm sure i can get past 3200mhz. i go 100% load 100% usage on S&M at 3150 and at 3200 it dies in about two seconds. i can even lower the voltage and get 3200mhz. i'm dead set on thinking it's my lack of the nf3 cpu/mem setting experience.Apoptosis wrote:Not like I have any free time recently, but I spent tonight overclocking the AMD Athlon 64 FX-60 Processor.
Test System:
AMD Athlon 64 FX-60 Processor
ASUS AN832-SLI Deluxe Motherboad
Corsair XMS 3200LL Memory
Western Digital 250GB SATA Hard Drive
BFG Tech 7800 GTX OC PCIe Graphics Card
OCZ Technology PowerStream 600W PSU
I left everything at default and raised the memory to 2.85V in the BIOS and started raising the FSB...
First I tried 210MHz:
It worked so I went to 220MHz:
Stable at 220MHz so on to 230MHz:
At 230MHz the BIOS required a bit of tweaking to get above 230MHz, but we got an extra 3MHz without having to increase the voltage to the processor at all.
The top overclock at default voltages:
As you can tell our AMD Athlon 64 FX-60 overclocks to 3.029GHz at default CPU voltages and with the stock heat sink fan. Not a bad overclock for not really even trying. Time to change over to the DFI Expert nF4 motherboard and to strap on the water cooler!
i'm very proficient at tuning my dfi nf2 UI so i have no fear of the setting in nf3; it's just i can't figure than all out in three days, lol
my setup pic if anyone's curious
