You should have Socket A. Which has been discontinued and replaced
You will need to have Socket AM2 for dual-core sadly.

also 3200+ is the highest that socket will go unless you overclock since Socket A ranged from 600 MHz (Duron) to 2333 MHz (Athlon XP 3200+)

well, when you have the budget I have, you better be getting a package deal...
It was a christmas gift from my parents, and they gave me only $450 bucks to work with. I got the best I could for the price, then added the video card later.

I got mine in november.
best case scenerio: I win the motherboard contest, build a new computer, sell my current computer to my parents.
Now I just have to find out how to build from scratch (never done it before)

Actually, if you want to stick with AMD you can buy a socket 939 motherboard and go dual core. You're limited as far as cpu selection goes, but you can find them and not be forced into buying a bunch of new equipment in the process of upgrading.
I've got an ABIT AV8 motherboard for sale in the Trader forum...check it out.
