Monster Rig.
Re: Monster Rig.
Wow, have you been hoarding those until you have enough parts, or has karma come a knocking?
That's some serious winning right there.

Re: Monster Rig.
I really don't enter all that many computer site competitions, at least not any more than most folks anound here, I see just about everyone I know show up at the competitions sooner or later during the month that its being held................
I do enter a ton of other online giveaways every now and then though. On my bad days when my back is completely out and I can't walk, I sit infront of my rig and simply every contest I can find.
One of these days I might just get lucky and hit the mother load........................

Preping the borad.
Kingston Memory Installed:

Swiftech APOGEE GTX mounting hardware installed.

Here's a few pics of the board installed and running.............. 8O The night shots show just how many different LEDs MSI installed on this board, granted they are ment for trouble shooting, but they look pretty cool in a dark room.............

Re: Monster Rig.
No chipset blocks, I've never use one of those myself, good air flow with a good air cooler has always been good enough for me in the past.martini161 wrote:do you still have all the mounting harware for an lga 775? and you dont happen to have any chipest blocks lying around do you?
The CPU APOGEE comes with everything needed to mount the block on all modern CPU's.........

Thanks, only problem with them is that they seem to limit OC'ing of the memory...................Looks good as usual Bio and those LED ram sticks are quite neat

Re: Monster Rig.
3.8 on the stock multi seems to be about it regardless of what I try, seems that this CPU has that nasty ole FSB wall...............THRASHER2 wrote:That is a MONSTER upgrade![]()
You do any OverClocking on it yet?

Going to try dropping the multi one of these days just to check and make sure that it is a FSB wall on the core or MoBo.

Re: Monster Rig.
Got a little bored today and decided to do a little getto modding and make a cooler for my Kingston DDR3 plus provide a little extra airflow around the NB heatpipe cooler as well. I tried a CoolIt ram cooler already and it was a bit on the loud (whiney) side for my liking, so I thought I'd try a little larger lower RPM fan instead. ...............
Anyway, I had a old thin style 80mm blue LED fan I pulled from a dead Hiper PSU that was fairly low noise, so I opted to use it. All I had to do was change the fan connector from a 2 pin to a 3 pin so I could connect it to one of the MoBo fan headers, pretty easy task, just a direct swap from a old dead fan I had laying around.
Next I took a extra chunk of mesh, cut a fan opening and cut the mech to size so it would drop down from the top of the case directly over the system memory. Mounting was simple because I have the large mesh covered cutouts in the top of the case that have center fill plates, so I screwed the mesh fan bracket to the underside of the center fill plate mount screw. It all came out pretty well and everything runs much cooler now. Before the mod the ram would get very warm when OC'd to 1440 MHz @ 2.0v, now they are hardly warm to the touch under load............
