Glad to hear your rig is ok! Dodged a bullet on that one. I keep a modem around that was pulled from a running machine to remind me not to be inside the case when there's power running to it. It has the scorch marks on it from where the guy pulled it out of the PCI slot. Now if I could just break the habit of fishing toast out of the toaster with the butter knife.

The guy that lived 2 houses up from me did apparently on a regular basis. Pulling the modem caused that slot to die immediately, the other slots one by one, then every thing on the pci bus died. Then I rebuilt him a budget rig for Command and Conquer and he didn't pull one out while it was on, he put one in while it was on. His integrated sound died, don't know from that or zapped a driver haven't looked at it yet. Having done it twice I figured he deserved no sound for a while.

Then he killed the sound card in his wifes, a SB 5.1 pci card by making sure it was seated firmly while it was running. (supposedly I think he was trying to see if it worked in his) I actually liked her so I gave her one I had laying around and a lock for the back of her rig.

Fortunately they've moved some where else, I will eventually hear from him, but at least he won't be showing up at my door rig in hand any more.

Sure felt like taping it to my boot and inserting it that way, he did that stuff after I gave him the lecture about powering off, grounding your self etc. The standard lecture, and he got it 3 or 4 times. Finally his better half locked her case, and her having the purse strings told him he'd have to wait to fix his. Far as I know he's still silently playing command and conquer.

case looks a little different now. put the fan in the back that was pushing on the rad to the front of the case, this was documented in the guide i wrote, so ill just post the pic of the front of my rig now.
Image
cpu temps dropped 2c on the hottest core btw. i guess having it pushing was creating deadspots, and now i have kind of a streamlined airflow over the ram/cpu straight back to the rad

nother update. got a scythe fan for the back rad, 120mm, 1600rpm, 88.11 cfm. my old one was as loud as an f16 on full after burner. this one furtuatly, is nice and quiet. i now see why most people dont like to run their 8800gt stock fan on 100 percent  never realized how damn loud it is. i also took the cover of the rad, it looks more gehto now
Image
the wire from the fan almost didnt make it  that was a close call, hate to have to return a great fan for something as little as that. temps actually went down a degree or two, not bad for a bout a 20db decrease in noise

Scythe fans are normally pretty quiet, don't know the number right off the top of my head though.

i dont think thats what they intended to do (the venturi effect), but they probably realized it afterwards that they did serve some purpose
