I just attempted an xbox mod on a friends xbox, every thing went ok until i tried to solder a wire to the BT resistor. After soldering it down i hot glued it and then tried to put it back together. The wire got pulled up and pulled the solder pad off the motherboard while i was installing some vertical PCB. Any way im kinda posting this to clear my conscience as i feel bad, i don't know if it killed his xbox but i don't think there is a good chance of it ever working again. In the end i guess the morel of the story is if your modding your xbox find someone who has done it successfully before, and pay them if you have to.

yeah, but he is getting a replacement mobo off ebay so i get to try again, this time i think it will work.

I AM REDEEMED! my buddy brought over his xbox and this time the mod worked no soldering errors and i even did it after 3 beers.

Sadly i did not take any but it was basicly the same as befor, you just solder the pin headder onto the board, and then add 3 littel wires.

Normally when you are soldering and the pad / track lifts, its a sign that you have either left the soldering iron on too long (too much heat transferred to the PCB) or the soldering iron is too powerful! I normally use a low wattage soldering iron for such. (Modding PS/PS2 is normally my game.)

Whilst working for Siemens (no jokes as I've heard them all), being an engineer I was sent on a course which involved learning to solder precisely! We had to solder a two ends of a piece of wire together (small gauge) such that you couldn't see the join. (After three days we were experts!)

it really had more to do with the hot glue than my soldering, the solder stuck the glue just pulled the whole resister off.

I decided against modding my Xbox because I only use it to play on Xbox Live and I found out that Microsoft is banning people that are playing on live with modded xboxs. I might just change the case and the lighting some to make it look cool but nothing internally because I love Halo 2 too much

The one we used has an on off switch so you can still use xbox live

honestly i dont realy know, my firend is the xbox guru im just the soldering person.

Don't know if you still need this, but theres soft-modding. Using a gamesave exploit to install a bios, a launcher, and a dashboard. Thats what I did, its really simple and takes 10min. Here is a tutorial for it. I did it and so did all my friends ( i urged them to try it) and it worked perfectly on thier xboxes. ( i should've charged them a little, cause it cost me 40$ to get the stuff, and they did it for free ) Anyway, here is a tutorial http://www.how2xbox.com/ Theres also a new soft mod that lets you turn it off much like a chipped xbox, but you'll have to check out xbox-scene for that one.

The perks of modding are:
Ability to place a bigger hard drive, I had a 160 gig holding alot of games, and movies. There was always something to do without looking for disks.
Play burned games
Play games from HD
Watch Movies
Play Emulators (PS1,SNES,NES,MAME,N64,etc)

I'm not a gamer but I do watch alot of anime on my xbox, way better than watching on my 17" CRT

I chickened out and had someone mod my Xbox for me, I think that was the best money I ever spent. It's so much nicer being able to play your favorite games without having to fumble around and find your game discs.

i have an xbox and i soldered a duo x 2 into it.. its just amazing.. best investment i ever made.. seriously..
