you would never get anywhere with a cut-off wheel.The plasma makes life SOOO much easier. Just cutting it close, then I will use one of the mills in the shop to clean up the edges. Right now it looks like a beaver chewed a hole in the plate.
Project - CUBErt
with a plasma you can clamp a straight peice of metal down and use it as a guide and get close and still get a straight line, love the work ive seen cant wait for the final.
Ive done simular things but full scale.

the pics of the copper tubing case frame got a idea of using the frame to hold extra water for wc and more surface area to disapate heat
want to build a case from scrach myself but right now dont have room in the garage to "tinker" in atm got a 3 yr progect going redoing a 69 roadrunner that ive had since 1977
and have been a hobbiest all my life
wish i had a large scrap pile to get all my metal
btw Apoptosis struct me odd you had to replace brake lines on that new a truck i still got my 70 f150 and it looks almost new but we dont have that much rust out here

I had used a straight edge, but I cranked up power to cut through the 3/16" stainless and that left a rather nasty looking edge 
I have CUBErt on the back burner for the moment, normal work is getting in the way
10 hour days for the last month and they are thinking 12's with mandatory saturdays here in the near future, wouldn't be so bad if I wasn't salary.
