Still no word from CoolIT but at some point last night the TEC's started back up and now my idle temps are 25c on core#0 and 15c on core#2. But now im affraid to touch or walk near my computer for fear of the TEC's failing again lol.

haha yeah I dont know why but no matter what cooling solution I use my second core is almost always 10c cooler then my primary core. Also still no word from CoolIT and ive had to figgle the wires again. This thing works great when it works but the quality is utter crap. I wanted to give CoolIT a chance to fix things but they havent replied and its been almost a week. I didnt wirte this before but when I installed the thing I managed to strip a thumb screw WITH MY BARE HANDS they use a very poor quality and brittle aluminum for the mounting hardware. This is the shabbiest piece of hardware ive ever worked with quality wise. Anyone who purchases this is taking a major gamble with their 200 dollars. Im sure some units work just fine but this has been one headache after another and I couldnt even RMA the thing if I wanted too because they wont reply to my inquiries.

heh... funny I just stripped one too... Installed it once and it didn't want to come apart and the thumbscrew just broke off in the coupler.

another coupler is really screwed up also... Brand new parts right out of the bag and they don't thread right....I went to three hardware stores (home depot being one of them) and none had the right size... I ended up rigging something together just to get it to work... Had a 8-32 nylon thumb screw on the bottom with a 10-32 coupler and nylon washer with a #10 machine screw... Had to bend out the stupid wire bracket to make it fit too... I haven't even used the darn thing for more than a couple days and I've already spent two hours driving around to hardware stores this weekend trying to find the right parts to make it work...

CoolIT will be getting nailed in my article for using these piss poor quality mounting parts... For $200 they could have gone for broke and tossed in some grade 8 mounting hardware and no one would ever break anything.

here are the pics, the one on the left is one of the thumb screws and the ones on the right are the half thats stuck in the standoff and the top half after it broke in half after I tried to unscrew it with two pairs of pliers.

its not a good pic sorry about that but I bought my digital camera from 40 bucks at a pawn shop and it has a hard time focusing.

Also I dont know if you tried this Nate but I used gold plated case thumbscrews I got from Quakecon last year! they fit like a glove lol

Sorry to see others having issues with the cooler too.
I haven't had any issues with the installation hardware but the inconsistent cooling..... I've switched back to my Zalman 9700.

I purchased my cooler from CompUSA, when I started having issues I tried different fan configuration. I also thought maybe TECs were getting interference from the water pump... they way they were tucked under it.
All that was a no go. I pulled out the thermal control module so I could look at it better. It looked like it was all hand soldered. There was also a cap in the center of the board which looks like an afterthought on there part was barely soldered on. The version number on the back was 1.01.

Coolit System is very difficult to contant but was persistent.
I spoke with there tech support who thought they could send out a replacement TCM but now they want the whole unit back.

I'm not sure what the shipping cost is to send it back to Canada but the only want the unit insured for $100 hmmmm They must be making some money off these.

Update: I was able to check the shipping charges for the RMA back to Canada. The instructions from Coolit Support wants the item shipped back to them UPS 3-day express or Fedex International Econo with $100. insurance. At roughly 5lbs that would be $70-80 dollars. I think I need to speak with them again or just cut my loses and give up.

You did set it to the macro mode, didn't you? (You know the one with the flower, that mode is meant for close up shots)

HONkUS check out the positive power lead for the TEC to the TCM. I was checking mine over this morning, the dang thing is very discolored.... chard if you will. Ouch!
Like I said in my previous post, I think I'll just cut my loses unless they are willing to cross ship and prepay for shipping. *shrug*

I took mine out and looked at it and yeah its not only scorched but the plug is melted together also so its now impossible to unplug the TEC's from the TCM. This is a major design flaw that could potentially lead to a fire! Ive removed this POS and im calling FrozenCPU and CoolIT tomorrow and im not stopping until I figure out how to return this thing and get my money back. How were they allowed to legally release something this dangerous?

Just curious, but what size PSU's do you guys have? This thing draws about 60W more than my Thermaltake Big Typhoon VX Heat Sink, so you might be pushing the limits of your PSU.

Also what setting did you run it at? L/M/H as I've not noticed the burnt connector issue yet.

im running a 580w Hiper PSU. Ive run the thing mostly on high but have alternated it between low and medium in attempts to get the things working. I doubt im stressing this PSU because the voltages have remained above spec but well within tolerances. Also while my TEC's were working I managed to get my proc up to [email protected] while it was on high and it was stable as a rock. Has your cooling been consistent Nate?

It's been running for 72 hours on medium on an E6700 overclocked up to 3GHz that's been folding for 3 days straight and the temps have been between 38-41C, so pretty consistent.

wierd, would faulty wiring connecting the TEC's cause scorching on the terminal? Also could it be that these units cant handle the high setting?

if it's not making good contact and too much juice is flowing through what is connected I could see it leading to the scorching or burning that you mentioned. you really need to pull it out and see what's going on though. Heck just for safety reasons alone.
